The sweetest little inlet right off the road. A small slice of beach among miles of lava rock and reef.

Driving back from the Maui Plein Air Group paint out in Kapalua I spotted this boat that had been beached by the last storm, said to myself “That’s a painting!”, and returned at sunset before they had a chance to figure out how to remove it. A woman was already sketching it when I went back, having the same idea!
$200 framed
*This painting still needs to be ‘tidied up’, I’m just too excited not to share.

When a breeze would trickle thru the impossibly dense forest, the stalks would knock and scrape together like an instrument. Or I was hearing it grow, which I like even more.

I knew this was THE waterfall to come back to on the road to Hana, but I didn’t know it would light up just for me. A gift!

My first painting of the first morning. A strong, beautiful start to a 3 day frenzied painting marathon! Definitely the calmest water during the whole time I camped there, and floating around at the black sand beach once it got too hot to keep working was such a delight.

The sound of rolling rocks in the waves combined with the salty mist sitting in the bay that morning made for a heavenly effect. Couldn’t and wouldn’t ask for anything better.

Perched, immersed, exposed, and impressed. Explosions on the point with the most saturated aquas and deepest blues swirling in chaos. I got rained out just before I could really dial up the salty spray and rocks. Oh well, time to head into Hana for fish tacos.

The percussion sound of the morning rollers skipping between the dark walls. Painting with camp coffee in hand, listening to know when to look up and see the big ones going off.
