Driving back from the Maui Plein Air Group paint out in Kapalua I spotted this boat that had been beached by the last storm, said to myself “That’s a painting!”, and returned at sunset before they had a chance to figure out how to remove it. A woman was already sketching it when I went back, having the same idea!

One great thing about Kolob Canyon is how easy it is to decide to drive in when passing by on the highway if the sun or clouds inspire you. This day I ended up there with late afternoon light and stormy snow clouds giving a fresh coat to the high country.
